How FuelHere reviews fuel cards

Most fuel-card rankings are written by companies that sell fuel cards. FuelHere doesn't sell cards, doesn't take placement fees, and publishes the criteria below so you can check our work.

Independence: FuelHere does not currently accept placement fees or affiliate commissions from any fuel-card provider. Reviews are based on publicly available information and editorial research, not first-hand contract pricing.

What every review evaluates

Net rebate, not headline rebate

Published cents-per-gallon figures are usually ceilings, and issuers pick the averaging window that flatters them. We describe the structure — where the discount applies, what conditions attach (on-time payment, in-network fueling, volume tiers) — and point every reader at the savings calculator to test the math on their own gallons.

The full fee schedule

Setup fees, per-card monthly fees, transaction fees, out-of-network fees, late fees. Where an issuer doesn't publish a fee, we say 'not publicly published — ask before signing' rather than guessing.

Network reality

A 50¢ discount at stations your drivers never pass is worth nothing. We describe each card's network (truck-stop chains vs. retail gas stations) and who that geography actually serves.

Credit model and cash flow

Credit-line cards, charge cards paid in full monthly, and prepaid models suit different operations. We flag which model each card uses and the cash-flow consequences.

Controls and reporting

Purchase controls, driver PINs, IFTA-ready reporting, and accounting exports — the operational features that decide whether a card survives contact with a real back office.

Who should skip it

Every review names the operator the card does not fit. A recommendation with no counter-case is marketing.

Standing practices

  • We do not accept placement fees from any fuel-card provider.
  • We do not publish numeric star ratings or aggregateRating schema — a single score hides the trade-offs that matter.
  • Facts come from issuer-published materials and reputable third-party reporting, each hedged with when it was last verified. Rates and fees change; always confirm with the issuer.
  • Reviews carry a last-updated date, and corrections are preserved on the page.
  • If we ever add an affiliate relationship for a specific card, we will disclose it on that review page itself — never silently.
